The Mid-Winter Still Life

fortepan-07-003, originally uploaded by mike costolo.

A pair of shoes my wife recently bought for my daughter. Taken on Fortepan 400 with an Orbit view camera (4x5). Some front tilt to get the plane of focus right. f/8 doesn't quite get the back of the inside of the shoe in focus. Developed in Rodinal 1:25. Printed on Kodak semi-matte paper.

When the temperatures dip below zero and the cold winter wind howls, being outside to take photos is not quite the same as during other New Hampshire seasons.

Many photographers look inside for inspiration and explore still life photography.

Or maybe we could use the mid-winter time to learn what the dials and buttons on our cameras do as our tune changes to spring is just around the corner. Isn't it?
